BURGERS ON THE EDGE "BURGER GENIUS" CONTEST

WHAT: The "Burger Genius" Contest, live competition and television taping
WHEN: Sunday, June 14, 2009, 6 p.m., Safeway Kapahulu

Burgers On the Edge presents the "Burger Genius" contest, to determine who in Hawaii can create the most original and delicious burger using the 8 cheeses, 12 sauces, and 18 toppings from the current menu or think outside the burger wrapper by submitting a recipe for their masterpiece. Four finalists will go burger to burger on Sunday, June 14 in front of the cameras for a chance to win a permanent spot on the menu, $200 cash and one free burger a week for an entire year! Runner-ups will receive $100 cash each.

Contest ends end of business on July 3. Winner announced July 4 on website and become part of Our Menu. The winner is based on number of burgers sold. The winner will also receive $200 Cash, Free Burgers for a Year and a Roundtrip airfare for two to Las Vegas, 5 nights hotel and meals provided by Vacations Hawaii. The winner will be announced on the 4th of July, the opening anniversary of Burgers On the Edge. The TV show, Burgers On The Edge presents "Burger Genius", will air on KHON FOX on Wednesday, June 24 at 9:00pm.

A portion of the proceeds from sales of the four burgers will benefit the Hawaii Foodbank. Everyone is invited to the competition and television taping. Please bring canned goods for the Hawaii Foodbank. The Top Five Most Needed Foods are:

• Canned meats & tuna
• Canned spaghetti, chili and corn beef hash
• Canned soups
• Canned vegetables
• Canned fruits

Monetary donations will also be accepted. Your $10 donation enables the Hawaii Foodbank to distribute food for 25 meals.

The Hawaii Foodbank is the only nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency on Oahu that collects, warehouses and distributes mass quantities of both perishable and non-perishable food to help feed Hawaii’s hungry. Donated and purchased foods are distributed to over 250 charities on Oahu. Last year the Hawaii Foodbank distributed 8.6 million pounds of food, including 1.6 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to those requiring emergency food assistance in Hawaii. Of the 8.6 million pounds distributed, over 5 million pounds were given free of charge. The Hawaii Foodbank is a certified member of Feeding America, the Nation’s Food Bank Network and a partner agency of Aloha United Way.
